July 2010
It has been a very long wait. The decision from the Department of Planning and Development (DPD) in Seattle was in favor of allowing the Ingraham Trees to be cut down. In June Save the Trees-Seattle appealed the decision. It was a two day hearing before the City Hearing Examiner (HE). The HE has NOT given a decision yet as to whether the School District will be allowed to do the proposed "west compressed plan" by cutting down trees in the Northwest Grove.
Save the Trees-Seattle has requested from the HE to remand the DPD decision, and force the School District to move their building -to an alternative site on campus. If the HE determines that the District does NOT need to use an alternative plan, then Save the Trees-Seattle will appeal to the King County Superior Court.
The delay's for this project have been created by the Seattle School District and the DPD. Incorrect notification to the Public, 2 additional SEPA addendums by the District and a long wait between the Remand and the "west compressed plan" has made for a long process for everyone.
The simplest and fastest relief to this situation is for the Seattle School District to move the proposed building to another site on the campus. Ingraham is a 28 acre campus, and has many options for this project. Removing the Ingraham Northwest Grove would be a tragedy for the Environment, and a Black Mark on Seattle School Districts Environmental and Conservation efforts.
November 2009
The Seattle School District has re-applied to build in the Northwest Grove. It has been a long wait, and a long process since our last publication of news. But the City and the School District often move at their own pace. It is uniquely the hurry up and wait system at its best. We have been waiting...now for all of us who want to save the Ingraham Trees it is the hurry up time.
